ACT FAQWhat is the ACT? The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities. The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The test is scored from 1-36. Almost every college requires an ACT or SAT for admission. When should I take the ACT? As early as the 9th grade! You can take the ACT as many times you want. Dare County offers a free ACT test for all juniors. How do I sign up for the ACT? How much does the test cost? How much does it cost to take the ACT? The ACT costs $29.00 + $14.00 (optional writing test) + $19.00 (if registered late). There are also fee waivers. More information here.
